House to leave for year Thursday

When the House finishes voting Thursday night, it’s done for the year.

House Republican leaders originally planned to leave Friday, after voting on a 30-day extension of the farm bill. But as the day progressed, the GOP decided to squeeze the farm bill into an already packed Thursday, which left Friday free and clear.

{mosads}The last roll call votes of the year for the House will be on the bipartisan budget plan, which is expected to pass later today, and the National Defense Authorization Act.

“Members are advised that upon passage of the Budget Agreement this afternoon, no votes are expected in the House tomorrow, Friday the 13th,” a House GOP aide said today. “This is a change from the previously announced schedule.”

That announcement also makes it likely that Democrats will have to move up their plans to protest the House adjournment for the year. Democratic leaders have promised to vigorously oppose adjourning until Congress approves an extension of emergency unemployment benefits, something the House will not do today.
