GOP, Dems even disagree over the name of the ‘cut, cap and balance’ bill
During the formal debate, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) said the bill should be called the “tap dance, losers club and bust” bill. She said it avoids the question of revenue, hurts people who need social services, and busts the benefits of those in need.
In response, Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) argued that President Obama’s plan could be called the “whistling past the graveyard plan,” since he has not proposed anything on paper. Also during the day, both parties accused each other of pursuing a plan to “duck, dodge and dismantle.”
Comments on the House floor came during the one-hour debate on the rule for the House Republican bill, H.R. 2560. The House was expected to hold a vote on the rule sometime before 2 p.m.
Assuming the rule passes, it calls for four more hours of debate on the bill on Tuesday.
