Ohio Republican urges keeping Jeep Wrangler production in his district
Rep. Bob Latta (R-Ohio) pressed the manufacturer of Jeep Wranglers to continue producing the cars in his district.
In a letter made public Friday to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne, Latta requested a meeting to discuss the automaker’s recent suggestion that production of Jeep Wranglers may no longer remain in Toledo, Ohio.
{mosads}Latta said that the Jeep Wrangler production facility in Toledo is a major source of economic income for residents of Toledo.
“For more than 70 years, Jeep Wrangler production has played an important role in the Toledo region,” Latta wrote. “Any shift in the production location would undoubtedly have negative consequences throughout the city, region and entire state.”
The Ohio Republican further suggested that moving the facility would result in a loss of institutional knowledge among workers.
“Toledo’s highly skilled workers have institutional wisdom that is a direct result of their experience and longstanding commitment to producing Jeep Wranglers, something that is not easily replicated,” Latta wrote.
