House Dem thanks Clooney for spotlight on Sudan

“I would also like to thank Mr. Clooney, Mr. George Clooney and his father, for calling these atrocities to our attention,” Green said.

{mosads}Clooney and his father were arrested on Friday for protesting in from of Sudan’s embassy in Washington, and called on Sudan to stop murdering and starving its people. Green attended remarks that the Clooney’s gave to reporters just before their arrest.

Green said he would join H.R. 4169, the Sudan Security, Peace and Accountability act. That bill was introduced earlier this month by Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.).

Green’s name would make 13 cosponsors. Four House members signed onto the bill on Friday, the day the Clooneys were arrested: Reps. Reps. John Lewis (D-Ga.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Allyson Schwartz (D-Pa.), and Jim Moran (D-Va.), who was also arrested last Friday.
