Bill would boost veterans’ prosthetics research
Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-Pa.) has introduced a bill to provide $30 million in grants for prosthetics and orthotics research for veterans.
Cartwright noted that more than 1,700 soldiers have lost limbs after serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.
{mosads}”We have a moral obligation to provide our soldiers with the best health care available. This much needed legislation would enhance orthotic and prosthetic research, helping practitioners better match prosthetic and orthotic devices with veteran amputees,” Cartwright said.
Across the Capitol, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) has introduced similar legislation.
The House is also expected to vote this week on a motion to go to conference with the Senate to reconcile each chamber’s legislation to reform the Department of Veterans Affairs.
