House Dem asks Obama ‘what your plan is’ on VA

Rep. Dan Maffei (D-N.Y.) on Wednesday warned President Obama that the administration was not aggressive enough in addressing the mishandled wait times at Department of Veterans Affairs facilities.

In a letter to President Obama, Maffei said that an investigation by the VA’s inspector general may not be enough to help reduce veterans’ wait times for medical care.

{mosads}”Our veterans have held up their end of the bargain and I remain concerned that the administration is failing to uphold its commitment to veterans,” the New York Democrat wrote. “I am concerned that addressing the systemic issue of delayed care and wait times for disability benefits is not being met with the sense of urgency it deserves.”

“I ask for your personal engagement to assure that those who are found accountable are punished and that we truly pursue a path to reform that leaves no veteran behind,” Maffei continued.

Maffei, who represents a moderate district in upstate New York, said the Obama administration’s plan to improve the VA management system wasn’t clear enough.

“I want to know what your plan is to ensure that our veterans are able to access quality care in an efficient and timely manner and what action your administration is taking to regain the trust of our veterans in the aftermath of these recent allegations,” Maffei wrote.
