House to move bill paying workers hit by the shutdown

That bill was offered earlier this week by Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.), and is supported by three Virginia Republicans. Moran said this week that it’s up to Congress to ensure furloughed workers are retroactively paid, a policy Congress has approved in past shutdowns.

He also said federal workers should not be blamed for the shutdown.

{mosads}”Nearly a million federal workers could lose their pay because Congress failed to do its job and keep the government up and running,” Moran said.

The Rules Committee indicated that funding bills would also be moved in the coming days on other issues, including low-income food assistance, nuclear weapon security, and border security.

The House Rules Committee was meeting Thursday evening to write a rule allowing floor consideration of all 11 bills.

These bills continue the House GOP effort to pass narrow spending bills, a tactic that Democrats have said they oppose. Senate Democrats today turned away an attempt by Republicans to pass some of the narrow bills the House has passed, and they have not offered any sign that the bills would get a vote.

Funding bills likely to come up in the House in the coming days — and possibly over the weekend — are:

— H.J.Res. 76, the Nuclear Weapon Security & Non-Proliferation Act,

— H.J.Res. 77, the Food and Drug Safety Act,

— H.J.Res. 78, the Preserving Our Intelligence Capabilities Act,

— H.J.Res. 79, the Border & Security Act, and

— H.J.Res. 80, the American Indian and Alaska Native, Health, Education, and Safety Act.

— H.J.Res. 82, the National Weather Monitoring Act

— H.J.Res. 83, the Impact Aid for Local Schools Act

— H.J.Res. 84, the Head Start for Low-Income Children Act

— H.J.Res. 85, the National Emergency and Disaster Recovery Act
