Obama warns House of overspending on intelligence activities

{mosads}”The Administration has serious concerns with the amounts authorized in the classified annex, particularly if these funding levels were included in an appropriations bill, because they exceed the President’s Budget,” the statement said.

“Further, the Administration objects to unrequested authorizations for some classified programs that were reduced in the President’s Budget because they are lower in priority and would support deficit reduction efforts,” it added.

Despite this concern, the administration said that it “does not oppose” the Intelligence Authorization Act, H.R. 5743, instead supporting language that would repeal some reporting obligations that the government now has to Congress.

Among other changes, the bill repeals a report on the acquisition of weapons technology, and several other reporting requirements were amended.

The total bill spends 4 percent less on intelligence activities than current-year levels.
