House panel to examine immigration bill next week

The House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing next Wednesday on immigration legislation.

The panel will hear testimony about Rep. Lamar Smith’s (R-Texas) bill that would require employers to check the work eligibility of all potential hires through the electronic E-Verify system. Another hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 11 on three additional immigration measures.

{mosads}Elsewhere, the House Foreign Affairs Committee will convene Wednesday to discuss the Obama administration’s new stance toward Cuba. Officials from the Departments of State, Commerce and Treasury are slated to testify.
