Open Trade Policies Promote Small Businesses

The consumer electronics industry is highly competitive and globally integrated.  Two-thirds of the Consumer Electronics Association’s (CEA) members, which include over 2100 of the nation’s consumer electronics manufacturers and retailers, conduct some sort of international business, primarily in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.  Large investments are needed to manufacture consumer electronics products, and even then many of these goods often have narrow profit margins. Therefore companies must feel safe entering new markets, protected by trade rules, and open, transparent economies.

CEA advocates for open and free trade on behalf of its member companies.  Specifically, in order to promote trade opportunities for businesses, CEA urges renewal of Trade Promotion Authority, passage of free trade agreements, the easing of delay times and increased opportunities for shipping on the U.S. southern border, and the promotion of an expeditious visa program.  With increased market opportunities created by free and open trade, CE small business companies will be able to continue to create high-paying U.S. jobs and positively contribute to the U.S. economy.
