House Passed a New Vision for U.S. Energy Policy (Rep. Chris Van Hollen)

I was proud to be a cosponsor of the New Direction for Energy Independence, National Security and Consumer Protection Act of 2007 and the Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Tax Act of 2007. Taken together, this comprehensive energy package represents a long overdue course correction and new vision for energy policy in the United States.

The House Democratic Leadership made good on its commitment to redirect wasteful subsidies away from our already highly profitable oil and gas companies towards the renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies of the future. These new investments will significantly enhance our ability to combat global climate change, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, generate millions of new jobs and save consumers and businesses hundreds of billions of dollars over the next twenty-five years.
