Gonzales is Losing Credibility (Sen. Arlen Specter)

I believe that Attorney General Gonzales’s credibility has been impaired when he has talked about not being involved in, quote, “discussions,” and his key subordinates, three of them, testified that he was involved in discussions.

I think there’s little doubt that the sequence of events has had an adverse impact on the Department of Justice.

I do not intend to call for his resignation. It’s my view that the issue of whether he stays or goes belongs to the president as the appointing power and to the attorney general, who has to make his own evaluation as to the impact on the Department of Justice; or to be superseded by a presidential decision, if the president decides that the attorney general should not stay.
