Democrats Are Committed to Energy while GOP Has Done Nothing (Rep. Phil Hare)

For the last six and a half years, Republicans have done virtually nothing to address skyrocketing gas prices, America’s growing dependence on foreign oil, and the increased threat of global warming.

Shortly before August recess, I voted in favor of the New Direction for Energy Independence, National Security, and Consumer Protection Act, which will redirect millions of dollars in tax breaks from profit-rich oil companies into the expansion of renewable energy resources such as ethanol and biodiesel, a key component of the Illinois farm economy. Investing in clean renewable fuels at home will make us less dependent on the Middle East for our energy supply and reduce the harmful emission of greenhouse gases.

Democrats are committed to a new direction on energy that grows our economy, protects our national security, and cleans our environment.
