Protecting Your Personal Health (Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers)

As we return to Washington, D.C. after the Memorial Day recess, there are a whole host of issues before Congress. Health care is probably one of the more important. As a mom, I can tell you that when your son or daughter is sick, there is nothing on your mind more than making sure you can help your child feel better. Many moms are also focused on taking care of their elderly parents or their in-laws. Not only that, they are dealing with the challenges of doctors appointments and tests that must be done. They’re also struggling to deal with insurance companies and Medicare.

Your health is a very personal issue, and as we approach solutions to health care, Americans deserve to know that they’re going to have access to a doctor and nurse they can trust. That doctor-patient relationship must be protected. It’s really been the foundation of health care in this country. America has had some of the best health care in the world and we must make sure this continues. We’ve been the leader in innovation, technology and curing diseases. We want to make sure we continue that leadership.

We’ve also got to control costs. You’re going to see Republicans coming up with reforms that will address the rising cost of health care. These reforms will protect the doctor-patient relationship and ensure our leadership on the health care front. We look forward to working with President Obama and the Democrats on this issue and hope to address this issue in a bipartisan fashion.
