Kennedy to miss Medal of Freedom ceremony
Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) won’t be on hand personally Wednesday to receive his Medal of Freedom award, USA Today reported this morning.
Kennedy, who has been battling brain cancer for over a year, will instead send his daughter, Kara, to accept the top civilian honor conferred by the president.
While battling his disease, Kennedy has been holed up and recuperating, often shying from public appearances. The “Lion of the Senate” has been engaged and working from his home, though, leaning on fellow lawmakers in the debate over healthcare reform.
