Liberal Blog Declares ‘Laugh at Lieberman Day’
With Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) poised to keep his Senate committee chairmanship, some of his foes online are trying to make the best of it.
The Seminal has declared Tuesday “International Laugh at Lieberman Day.” The new holiday comes on the same day that the Democratic Senate caucus is scheduled to vote on whether to mete out any punishment to Lieberman for backing Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for president.
The blog, which has called for removing Lieberman from the chairmanship of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, has also started a website, LaughatLieberman.com, that features some of his more infamous video clips of him.
The posted videos replay the “The Kiss” between Lieberman and President Bush and a speech Lieberman gave extolling the virtues of then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) back when Lieberman was still an official member of the Democratic Party.
The website also urges people to call Lieberman’s office and post videos of their own. It’s a way for Lieberman’s foes to vent, said Jason Rosenbaum, a Seminal blogger.
“Well, Joe is likely to keep his chairmanship, and there’s no chance he’ll be thrown out of the Democratic caucus, so this is a little bit of catharsis,” Rosenbaum said. “And let’s face it, the words ‘Senator Joe Lieberman’ really sound like a joke to me.”
