Bloomberg Leads Rep. Weiner in NYC Mayor Poll
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I) holds significant leads over his potential Democratic challengers, including Rep. Anthony Weiner, according to a new Quinnipiac poll.
Bloomberg is ahead 50 percent to 34 percent over Weiner, who ran for the Democratic mayoral nomination in 2005 and plans to campaign for it next year. Bloomberg leads City Comptroller William Thompson (D) 49 percent to 34 percent.
Perhaps the one silver lining for Democrats in the poll is Bloomberg’s approval rating; it has dropped from 75 percent last month to a paltry 66 percent. It had been above 70 percent for two years.
Bloomberg in the past few weeks successfully pushed for a repeal of term limits for Gotham elected officials and has called for cancelling a $400 property tax rebates. Those moves, however, have yet to hurt Bloomberg much, noted Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz.
“New York City voters like Mayor Michael Bloomberg a little less, but still a lot,” Schwartz said in a memo.
