Bennet Sworn In

Former Denver Public Schools Superintendent Michael Bennet was sworn in to the U.S. Senate Thursday to replace incoming Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.

Bennet will take Salazar’s Colorado seat for the remaining two years of his term, and has announced his plans to seek re-election in 2010. Vice President Joe Biden performed the swearing-in ceremony as Salazar looked on. Salazar’s appointment as Interior Secretary was confirmed by the Senate on Tuesday.

A former counsel to a deputy attorney general in the Clinton administration, Bennet was tapped by Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter (D) on Jan. 3 as Salazar’s replacement.
