House Plan the ‘Snuggie Stimulus,’ Pundit Claims

The $825 billion economic stimulus package is a one-size-fit-all package much like the infamous “Snuggie” advertised on cable television, one conservative pundit alleges.

“What better way to fix the economy than a giant, cumbersome product of questionable value,” says the mock infomercial produced by the conservative Weekly Standard’s Mary Katharine Ham. “Super-large, one size fits all, so no one has to worry about tailored solution or accountability.”

“I just thought: what better metaphor for the stimulus package than this unwieldy ridiculous product that everyone’s talking about these days,” Ham said in a phone call Thursday. “I think at this point politically, we’ve reached the point where we wouldn’t be surprised if there WERE a snuggie for every American in the stimulus.”

Ham said she wrote and edited the video itself, and tried to get it up this morning before the Senate votes on the package. “The most fun part was leaving the place of work with a snuggie on,” she added. She has produced other political parodies before.
