Stimulus Became More Unpopular Every Minute: Ryan

House Budget Committee Ranking Member Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) blamed the stimulus package’s flagging popularity for Friday’s rushed votes in the House and Senate, passing the legislation.

Ryan said that Democrats in Congress rushed through the bill because as the stimulus started to become unpopular, it was becoming politically difficult to support it.

“This bill was becoming more and more unpopular every extra minute it stood the light of day,” Ryan said during an appearance on Sean Hannity’s television show Monday night. “The longer this thing stood out there, the more unpopular it was becoming — the tougher it was becoming for Democrats to vote for it.”

Ryan asserted that the long-term cost of the package could actually reach as much as $3 trillion dollars after taking into account interest and certain spending provisions in the package.
