Schumer Sent Pork Rinds After ‘Don’t Care’ Remark
A Kentucky radio talk show host, taking issue with Sen. Chuck Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) assertion that Americans don’t care about pork-barrel spending, is responding in a most unusual way: sending the Jewish lawmaker pork rinds.
Lexington, Ky. radio personality Leland Conway asked his listeners to send Schumer pork rinds, a snack food made from cooked pig skin, in response to the Senator’s remarks. After three days, the host estimates, as many as 1,500 bags of the snack had been shipped Schumer’s way.
Jewish law on keeping kosher prohibit the consumption of pork products, among a number of other dietary requirements. It is not immediately clear whether Schumer keeps Kosher.
The pork rinds were accompanied by a letter.
“It is with grave concern for our own welfare and that of our children that we reprimand you for your careless remarks before the United States Senate during debate over the ‘American Recovery and Reinvestment act,'” the host and producers wrote. “The fact is, Americans do care about the wasteful spending and corruption in government.”
