Lieberman to Remain Chairman of Committee

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) will remain chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Tuesday.

“It’s very clear that the vast majority of the Democratic caucus wants to keep Sen. Lieberman as chairman,” Reid said. “This is done. It is over.”

“I would defy anyone to be more angry than I was,” Reid said. “I am very satisfied with what we did today. I feel good about it.”

Lieberman said he had given up his seat on the Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works.

The Senate Democratic Caucus met at 9:30 a.m. behind closed doors to vote on the fate of Lieberman.
