Inhofe: Obama’s votes against Roberts, Alito give GOP leverage this time

GOP Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma said Tuesday that President Barack Obama’s past opposition to Supreme Court nominees John Roberts and Samuel Alito gives Republicans some leverage to oppose an Obama nominee.

Inhofe said he wants the president to avoid any nominee who will become an activist on the court, and cited Obama’s votes as a senator against Roberts and Alito as a possible reason Republicans could use to block any such nominee.

“I think it does, yeah,” Inhofe said. “They can’t criticize us for opposing someone who wouldn’t be acceptable, not just on the Supreme Court but on any courts.”
