Boehner: Obama will get GOP plan by Memorial Day

President Obama will have Republicans’ package of spending cuts by Memorial Day, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) pledged Wednesday.

Boehner said that Republicans, who were criticized by Democrats and liberal groups for having offered no alternative to President Obama’s budget, will have their spending cut proposals ready in just a few weeks.

Republicans offered their budget during the ongoing debates several weeks ago.

“Well, I don’t know that the president will agree with all of our findings,” Boehner said in an interview with Fox News. “We’re going to try to get him our ideas before Memorial Day. But we are going to outline for him a whole series of cuts to our budget.”

To boot, Boehner criticized the amount of federal spending, echoing Republican talking points for weeks, and suggested that voters want a budget that spends less.

“If there is wasteful federal spending, the taxpayers expect us to find a way to stop it,” Boehner said. “And what we’re going to do is identify as much of this as we can and present our ideas to President Obama.”

By contrast, the top Republican in the House accused the president of having no plan on national security.

Boehner said that while the Obama administration has spent a lot of time criticizing the Bush administration’s policies to pursue terrorists, it has offered no plans of its own.

“What’s missing, here, is that the administration has no overarching plan for how we’re going to keep Americans safe, and nor do they have a plan that outlines how we’re going to deal with the terrorist threat that we’re dealing with,” the Ohio Republican said.
