Moran: Bands worried ‘lives are endangered’ by gun law at D.C. venue

An amendment to recently-passed credit card legislation to allow in national parks could threaten a popular metro D.C. concert venue if passed, a northern Virginia lawmaker warned this week.

Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) criticized the amendment to the credit card signed into law last month that makes it legal for citizens to carry firearms into national parks.

The problem for Moran? That would include the Wolf Trap Center for the Performing Arts, located in Virginia’s suburbs of D.C., which is a national park. The outdoor theater features performers from WIlco to Riverdance to Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” on this summer’s schedule alone.

“Any number of performing artists are now informing Wolf Trap that they do not want to go to Wolf Trap because their lives are endangered by this legislation,” Moran said in a speech on the House floor yesterday.

Moran urged a repeal of the gun amendment.
