Laura Bush to deliver commencement address
Former First Lady and alumna Laura Bush is slated to deliver this year’s commencement address at Southern Methodist University on May 16, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Bush graduated from SMU in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She is also a member of the school’s board of trustees.
The Bushes have maintained close ties to the school and moved not too far from its Highland Park campus earlier this year. Their relationship with the school hasn’t always been peachy, though. Several faculty members and students protested the construction of Bush’s presidential library at the school. Plans for the library, however, are moving forward.
