Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) was hospitalized on Friday for a minor infection, according to his office.
In a statement on Monday, Byrd’s office said the senator was sent to the hospital after his temperature spiked on Friday afternoon. Doctors said a minor infection caused the temperature spike.
The office said the senator is being treated with antibiotics and expects to be released in the next couple of days.
Byrd will turn 92 in November. He has served in the Senate since 1958.
