Daschle: I’m Embarrassed and Disappointed

Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) penned a letter to the top Democrat and Republican of the Senate Finance Committee on Monday apologizing for lapses in his tax payments.

“I am deeply embarrassed and disappointed by the errors that required me to amend my tax returns,” Daschle told Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Ranking Member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa). “I apologize for the errors and profoundly regret that you have had to devote time to them.”

Daschle’s letter seeks to firm up support for his confirmation to become Secretary of Health and Human Services, a role in which he is expected to head a healtchare reform effort on behalf of the Obama administration.
