Former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice has signed with talent agency William Morris in a planned “reinvention and evolution” of her image.
Rice will be represented by Jim Wiatt and Wayne Kabak, Variety reported Wednesday, where they will help the former Bush administration official pursue writing books, as well as academic and philanthropic efforts.
“We will be meeting with publishers in very short order,” Kabak said. “This is not about hiring a company to arrange a book deal or to book speeches,” adding that the representation will extend beyond books.
Kabak added that Rice will take a twofold focus, emphasizing women’s empowerment and encouraging young Americans to become global citizens.
“We are not thinking about this as, ‘We are signing a public official,'” the agent said. “We are signing a scholar. We are signing a writer.”
Rice has spoken previously of wanting to become involved in sports management — perhaps even becoming commissioner of the National Football League. The agency indicated partnerships with sporting groups could be a possibility.
According to Variety, the William Morris Agency represents a slew of other former and current lawmakers. Clients include: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.), Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) and former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.), and has represented former President Gerald Ford, Gov. Mitt Romney (R-Mass.) and Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) in the past.
