Bush Gets Behind Greater Jobless Benefits

The Bush administration will back an extension of unemployment benefits the Senate is set to vote on today.

The Senate is set to vote on the House-approved Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2008 Thursday, which would extend the length of unemployment insurance granted to out-of-work Americans. The bill’s movement comes as the Labor Department said Thursday that jobless claims had hit a 16-year high.
