White House press takes aim at Gibbs

Ahead of Thursday night’s congressional luau at the White House, press secretary Robert Gibbs invited the White House press corps to come out and try and sink him in the dunk tank.

Of four throwers, two — CBS’s Bill Plante and the Associated Press’s Ben Feller — were able to put their tormentor in the water.

As reporters were walking out to the South Lawn, which is decorated in Hawaiian fashion, President Obama leaned out of a door of West Wing office near the Oval Office and shouted across the Rose Garden: “Go get him!”

Gibbs will be a target for a little while longer as he, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, OMB director Peter Orszag and legislative director Phil Schiliro will all take turns in the booth at the luau.
