Obama Jabs D.C. for Winter Weather Panic

President Obama mocked Washingtonians Wednesday for their inability to deal with a modest ice storm that fell overnight, promising to instill “flinty Chicago toughness” into D.C. citizens.

Obama, speaking off-the-cuff briefly before statements following a meeting with 13 U.S. business leaders, said the icy conditions in Washington today are but a mere trifle compared to his native Chicago.

“When it comes to the weather, folks in Washington don’t seem to be able to handle things,” Obama said, according to a pool report of the remarks.

“My children’s school was canceled today, because of what? Some ice,” Obama joked. “As my children pointed out, in Chicago school is never canceled,” the president added.

After last night’s ice storm, Washington is expected to reach a cold drizzle today, with a high of 39 degrees.
