Bachmann’s son joins program she derided
The gift-that-keeps-on-giving that is Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) has once again seen her words back her into a corner.
A few months ago, Bachmann spoke out vocally against the Obama Administration’s planned expansion of AmeriCorps and derided the program itself.
“It’s paying people to do work on behalf of government,” she told a local conservative talk show host. “There are provisions for what I would call re-education camps for young people, where young people have to go and get trained in a philosophy that the government puts forward and then they have to go and work in some of these politically correct forums.
“As a parent, I would have a very, very difficult time seeing my children do this.”
That last line is the clincher because, as it turns out, she’s going to have a very, very difficult time.
That’s right: Bachmann’s son, Harrison, the Minneapolis Star Tribune confirmed, has joined the Teach for America program, which is administered by AmeriCorps.
The Star Tribune’s Jon Tevlin also points out that, because of the application deadline, Bachmann’s son should have already applied for the program when his mother railed against AmeriCorps, and he might even have already been accepted.
You can’t make this stuff up.
