Taylor calls Norquist’s ATR ‘lying sacks of scum’
Rep. Gene Taylor (D-Miss.) condemned conservative activist Grover Norquist and his organization, Americans for Tax Reform, as “lying sacks of scum” for accusing Taylor of changing positions on healthcare.
“Americans for Tax Reform are lying sacks of scum, and anyone who knowingly repeats this false information is also a liar,” Taylor said in a statement on his website.
ATR, an anti-tax organization, accused Taylor of joining with other centrist Democrats to support healthcare legislation before Congress. Taylor, a member of the centrist Blue Dog Coalition, maintained he does not support the reform legislation before the House.
Taylor’s office called for an immediate retraction of the ATR release, and said it’d repeatedly sought to get in touch with the group’s representatives.
The releases also noted ATR and its head Grover Norquist’s ties to disgraced defense industry lobbyist Jack Abramoff, calling it an example of the organization’s “have a history of unethical behavior.”
