Specter to woo netroots crowd?
A while back I noted that Arlen Specter was shrewd to write an op-ed about the power of the internet for the Huffington Post. Both the topic and the venue were ideal for woo-ing the netroots activists that have so far fueled interest on Joe Sestak’s primary challenge.
Now, it looks like Specter may make an appearance at the annual “Netroots Nation” conference, the largest gathering of liberal bloggers in the country.
A source sends over the invitation that was issued to both Specter and Sestak for a Netroots Nation “Pennsylvania Leadership Forum” on August 14th, where attendees would take questions from an audience and conduct a question and answer session with moderators.
“We are considering it,” Christopher Nicholas, Specter’s campaign manager, confirmed to me a few moments ago. “Our attendance has not been finalized.”
Nicholas rejected the idea that Specter was considering an appearance out of worry over Sestak–sort of. “We’re taking any and all potential primary opponents seriously,” he said.
It would be a huge coup for Specter if he can keep liberal bloggers at least somewhat neutral in the primary. Looks like that’s what he’s aiming for.
