Tiahrt falling behind in fundraising
Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.) announced Wednesday that his Senate campaign raised $322,000 and banked $1.4 million in the second quarter, but it will need to pick up the pace if it is to meet its goals.
Tiahrt’s campaign has said in fundraising letters as recently as late June that its goal is to raise $3 million by the end of the year. Whether that’s a goal for the total amount raised or the amount in the bank, he needs to find a higher gear.
Tiahrt has raised just over $700,000 through the first half of the year and actually saw his fundraising drop off slightly in the second quarter.
Even if you include the $1 million he transferred from his House account when he launched his Senate bid, he’s still got to start raising about double what he has been raising through the first six months.
If the goal doesn’t include the $1 million, he’ll have to start raising about $1.15 million per quarter.
Even if he does reach $3 million, though, he will still have less cash on hand than his opponent, Rep. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.). Moran started out with more cash to transfer from his House committee and has raised more than $900,000 in the first six months of the campaign.
Moran has already put together his $3 million for the raise, with $3.1 million in the bank at the end of the second quarter.
