Businessman to run against Rep. Wu
Republican businessman Rob Cornilles says that he will seek a challenge to Rep. David Wu (D-Ore.) in 2010.
Cornilles attended candidate school at the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) this week. He said Tuesday that he wasn’t looking to run for Congress but saw an opening thanks to Wu’s votes.
“If you look at the length of time he’s been representing our district and then you ask yourself what he has done to benefit the district, you’ll get crickets,” Cornilles said. “He has not represented us well.”
Cornilles is a sports promotion consultant who has worked with clients in just about all of the major professional sports leagues. He is the founder of a company called Game Face Inc.
Wu is not a top GOP target, and he last faced a formidable opponent in 2004. Republican Goli Ameri spend more than $2 million for that race, but Wu defeated her by 20 points.
He hasn’t taken less than 58 percent of the vote since being elected to the seat in 1998.
He faced no GOP opponent in 2008, and President Obama won the district with 61 percent of the vote.
