Sestak raised $1 million in second quarter
It’s getting real serious, real quick in Pennsylvania.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.) is set to announce he raised more than $1 million for his House campaign committee in the second quarter. Of course, he can transfer all of that to his primary challenge to Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) when he makes that official.
Sestak’s is an astounding total for a House candidate — even one who is eyeing a statewide bid. Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) is generally considered among the most prodigious fundraisers in the House, and even he raised a relatively paltry $580,000 in the second quarter as he eyed a Senate run.
Sestak will also report $4.2 million cash on hand, which isn’t going to be as much as Specter, but it still leaves him on tremendous financial footing for a challenger this early in the race.
Specter had $6.7 million in cash as of the end of March, but he has yet to announce second quarter totals.
