UPDATED: Himes raises $520K in second quarter
First term Democratic Rep. Jim Himes (Conn.) raised $520,000 in the second quarter and has hauled in over $1 million since Election Day last year, according to a Democratic source familiar with his fundraising.
Himes will report $760,000 cash on hand in his second quarter Federal Election Commission report.
Himes defeated 10-term Republican Chris Shays last year by four points.
Himes raised about $448,000 in the first quarter and when that’s added to his second quarter haul and what he raised before the end of last year, has raked in about $1.1 million for his reelection bid.
Himes is not debt free, though, since he finished the first quarter $365,000 in the hole.
The Democrat is a target for Republicans next year who hope to regain some presence in the Northeast. In particular, Republicans are excited about state Senate Minority Leader John McKinney, who appears to be heading toward a run. McKinney’s father, Stewart, held the 4th District seat before Shays.
UPDATE: We have confirmed Himes’ fundraising with his campaign team. We also found out that Himes is not in debt. Rather, $35,000 of the $365,000 was debt Himes paid off in the second quarter. The remaining $330,000 are loans Himes made to the campaign last year and has transferred to his 2010 campaign.
