Chaffetz won’t rule out challenging Bennett

First-term Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R) said this week he’d keep his “options open” as to whether he’d challenge incumbent Sen. Bob Bennett (R) in 2010.

“I don’t have any intention of doing that (running against Bennett),” he told the Deseret News. “But I guess I like to keep my options open. Never say never.”

Chaffetz is no stranger to knocking off incumbent Republicans in Utah. He knocked off fellow Republican Rep. Chris Cannon in the 2008 GOP primary before going onto winning his seat.

Bennett, 75, has been in the Senate since being elected in 1992.

“There’s a lot of encouragement for me to do that,” Chaffetz said of a potential run.
