Asked About Polls, McCain Jokes ‘Life’s Not Fair’
John McCain, when asked on “Fox and Friends” why he’s fallen behind Barack Obama in polls, had an excuse ready.
“Because life isn’t fair,” he joked.
McCain has fallen behind Obama in most national polls as woes on Wall Street have dominated news cycles and despite McCain’s decision to leave the campaign trail to join talks on a bailout package.
Fox hosts said that the American people aren’t picking up on McCain’s argument that Barack Obama has been “missing in action.”
“Well, he certainly did nothing in the first few days, and as you know, I suspended my campaign, took our ads down, came back to — to Washington and met with the House folks and get on the phones and also had face-to-face meetings,” McCain said. “But, look, all I care about is getting this thing done. This is far more important than a political campaign, in many respects. This is a — this is the greatest financial crisis of our lifetime. So you’ve just got to do what you have to do, and that’s put your country first.”
