‘Mr. Met’ At The Debate

Mr. Met, the beloved mascot of the New York Mets, seemed to make a cameo appearance in the spin room at Wednesday night’s presidential debate.

The mascot was apparently seen on Fox News in the background as host Greta van Susteren spoke. At one point, one of Mr. Met’s handlers takes off the mascot’s oversized baseball head, which is a big no-no for mascots in public.

The mascot, however, wasn’t the real Mr. Met.

The fake Mr. Met, comedian Robert Smigel and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog were filming a skit for “Late Night With Conan O’Brien.” Another telling sign that the mascot wasn’t the real deal was the lack of a number on his uniform; the actual Mr. Met wears “00” (as seen here).

Below is the YouTube clip of “Mr. Met” on Fox News, followed by footage of the “Late Night” crew in the spin room. (Hat tip: Deadspin and FishbowlDC.)
