Poll: Oregon Senate Race Neck and Neck

A poll released Friday in the neck-and-neck Oregon Senate race finds the race as close as ever, with Democratic state House Speaker Jeff Merkley clinging to a one-point lead over Republican incumbent Gordon Smith.

The Riley Research poll surveyed 499 registered voters from Oct. 10 to Monday, and found Merkley at 36 percent, Smith at 35 percent and another 23 percent undecided.

Smith led in the race until mid-September, when Merkley overcame him and has led by small but consistent margins ever since.
