Networks: Obama Wins Iowa, McCain Takes Miss., Texas, Utah

Barack Obama has won Iowa according to network projections, with John McCain scoring projected wins in Mississippi, Texas, and Utah.

Iowa was the only of those states considered a battleground by pundits heading into the 2008 race. Obama maintained a solid lead there since winning the Democratic nomination in June: his smallest lead in any major poll there was four percent in June.

Obama takes Iowa’s seven electoral votes, while McCain collects 45 from Mississippi, Texas, and Utah.
