Huckabee Knocks Romney in New Memoir

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) has some pointed words for his former presidential primary rival Mitt Romney in his latest book.

Huckabee, in “Do The Right Thing,” says that the former Massachusetts governor failed to call after Huckabee defeated him in the Iowa caucuses. Time’s Michael Scherer notes that Huckabee’s team took that as “a sign of disrespect.” Huckabee also dismissed Romney’s record as governor as “anything but conservative until he changed the light bulbs in his chandelier in time to run for president.”

Schrerer notes that Huckabee, a Baptist pastor, also criticizes conservative Christian leaders for backing other candidates in the primary instead of him and extreme libertarians whom he think threatens the Republican Party. In the book, subtitled “Inside the Movement That’s Bringing Common Sense Back to America,” Huckabee stresses the need for social conservatism and his own grassroots campaign. It hits store shelves Tuesday.
