Ken Blackwell Considering RNC Bid

Former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell is looking at running for Republican National Committee chairman, reports The Hotline.

RNC members had called Blackwell to urge him to run, according to unnamed Hotline sources.

Blackwell is currently the vice chairman of the RNC’s platform committee. In 2004, he was Ohio’s chief elections official at the same time he was a co-chairman of President Bush’s reelection effort in the state. He ran for governor in 2006, losing to Democrat Ted Strickland.

Other contenders for the top RNC post include South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson, Michigan GOP Chairman Saul Anuzis, former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, and Chip Saltsman, former campaign manager for ex-Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.).
