Possible Gov. Candidate Newsom Posts 7.5 Hour Speech
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom (D) will post Monday on YouTube his 7 1/2-hour State of the City address, a gimmick seen as part of his possible 2010 bid for governor.
Newsom told the San Francisco Chronicle that the unusual format will allow him to delve deeper into topics, such as food stamps, that wouldn’t be mentioned in a shorter, more traditional speech.
The lengthy speech should also earn him some statewide attention ahead of his possible gubernatorial candidacy, according to MSNBC’s First Read. Newsom has already launched an exploratory committee to consider a campaign to succeed Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R), who can’t run for a third term.
