Steele, Duncan Even After Second RNC Ballot
Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele pulled even with incumbent Chairman Robert “Mike” Duncan on the second ballot to determine the next chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC).
After the second round, Duncan lost four votes and Steele gained two, putting them at 48 votes apiece. To win, a candidate must receive a majority of 85 votes to win.
South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson garnered one additional vote, receiving 29 voters’ support on the second ballot.
Michigan Republican Party Chairman Saul Anuzis gained two more votes, totaling at 24.
Former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell was the other candidate to lose votes, dropping down to 19 after the second ballot.
