Early Field Cloudy in N.H. 2010 Senate Race

The field for the 2010 New Hampshire Senate race is wide open, a new poll released Wednesday found.

The Granite State’s two Democratic members of Congress draw statistically even with former Rep. Charlie Bass (R) and former Sen. John Sununu (R) in hypothetical matchups.

Rep. Paul Hodes (D) maintains an early advantage over Bass and Sununu, according to a Public Policy Polling (PPP) survey. Hodes leads Bass 40-37 percent with 23 percent undecided, and has a smaller margin over the recently-ousted Sununu, besting him 46-44 with 10 percent undecided.

Meanwhile, the two Republicans have a small advantage over Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D). Bass leads Shea-Porter 43-42 percent with 15 percent undecided, while Sununu garners 46 percent to Shea-Porter’s 45 percent (9 percent undecided), according to the PPP poll.

The poll, conducted Feb. 6-8, has a 2.7 percent margin of error. The firm uses an automated telephone message to record its results.
