Democrat Judy Baker Gets VFW Nod in Missouri’s Ninth

The political arm of the Veterans of Foreign Wars endorsed Democrat Judy Baker today for Missouri’s ninth-district congressional seat, which has been vacated by Rep. Kenny Hulshof’s (R-Mo.) gubernatorial bid.

“In addition to comments received from VFW leaders in your state, this endorsement is based on your strong support for veterans, national security/defense and military personnel issues,” said Larry Rivers, director of VFW’s political action committee.

Baker, whose father was a career Navy man, put forth a proposal in May to provide health care to veterans at public hospitals. The only Veterans Administration hospital in Missouri’s ninth district is in Columbia, leaving some residents with a six-hour drive to get there.

“As the daughter of a career navy officer, I am so honored to have the support of the men and women associated with the Veterans of Foreign Wars. I will work every single day in Congress to improve the lives of veterans and make sure they receive the benefits they have earned,” Baker said.

Baker is locked in a tough race with Republican Blaine Luetkemeyer to succeed Hulshof in the right-leaning district.
